Quick answers for practices evaluating Mesio. For deeper, feature-by-feature help once you're inside the app, the in-app assistant (Moe) searches a much larger corpus and can answer questions about your specific chart, schedule, or settings.
01Getting started
How do I try Mesio?
Two ways. Synthetic demo drops you straight into a working version of the app loaded with fake patients, fake schedules, and fake recordings — no signup, no card, no real data. Click "Start free demo" anywhere on the site. Two-week free trial on real patients is the production app with your actual practice, a signed BAA, and your team using it on real visits. Cancel any time inside the fourteen days and we never charge you.
What does it run on?
The main Mesio app is web-based — it works in any modern browser, including on an iPad in the operatory. The Mesio Bridge (for desktop PMSes like Open Dental and Dentrix) is a small Windows app you install on the chair-side workstation. The Mesio browser extension (for cloud PMSes) installs from the Chrome Web Store. Nothing exotic: regular networked workstations.
How long does onboarding take?
Account is set up in five minutes. First signed note happens the same day. Full team rollout — every dentist, hygienist, and front-desk member on board with their preferred templates — typically takes a week.
02Recording & notes
How do I record a visit?
Open the visit and press Record. The pill at the top of the visit shows you it's running. Speak naturally — to the patient, to your assistant, to whomever. When the visit ends, hit Stop and Mesio drafts the note. You can also let Mesio detect end-of-utterance in real time ("Streaming mode") so the chart fills in tooth-by-tooth as you dictate.
What happens if I lose internet mid-visit?
The recording survives — capture buffers locally and uploads as soon as the connection comes back. You can also keep dictating after a brief outage; nothing is dropped.
What if the AI gets the note wrong?
The note is always a draft until you sign it. You can edit any section directly, accept or reject any AI-proposed sentence via Smart Fix (highlight, ask the AI to expand/rewrite/shorten, see the diff, click accept), or dictate corrections by talking to Moe. Sign locks the note — once signed, any later AI-assisted edit is tracked with a visible diff against the signed version.
Do I have to dictate in a specific format?
No. Speak naturally during the visit. Mesio maps what you said onto your practice's template — SOAP, comprehensive exam, hygiene visit, perio therapy, restorative, endo, recall, emergency, or any custom template you've set up. The template just controls how the finished note is organized.
03Perio charting
How does voice-driven perio work?
Open the perio chart, start streaming mode, and call out the measurements the way you already do — "14 distal three two four, bleeding on mesial." The chart fills in live, tooth-by-tooth, including bleeding, suppuration, plaque, recession, mobility, and furcation. There's an audible "ack" tone after each utterance so you can chair-side without watching the screen.
What if a measurement gets misheard?
Two layers catch this. First, Mesio's perio engine halts the cursor when it hears a partial tooth (fewer probe depths than expected) and chimes a "halt" tone — you re-anchor with "tooth N" and resume. Second, any cell on the chart is click-and-type editable. You can also see every prior perio chart for the patient side-by-side, useful for comparing pocket-depth change over time.
What about furcation, mobility, and missing teeth?
All charted — say "mobility two on tooth fourteen" or "tooth fourteen missing" or "furcation grade two buccal on tooth two." The chart's tooth glyphs reflect missing, implant, crown, RCT, bridge, veneer, and filling flags too.
04Your PMS
Does Mesio replace my PMS?
No. Mesio sits alongside your PMS. The chart stays in your PMS, and Mesio adds the AI scribe + chair-side assistant layer on top. You don't migrate data and you don't ask anyone on the team to learn a new chart.
How does Mesio fit with my PMS?
Depends on what kind of PMS you use:
- Browser-based PMS (CareStack, Curve, Denticon, Eaglesoft) — install the Mesio browser extension. It mounts a small Mesio drawer right inside the PMS tab. You record chair-side, and the note and perio land in your PMS's own fields when you save.
- Desktop PMS (Open Dental, Dentrix) — install the Mesio Bridge, a small desktop app that sits alongside your PMS on the workstation. The Bridge gets today's schedule from your PMS and lets you capture perio + visit notes chair-side without leaving the workflow.
Either way, the practice keeps using its existing PMS as the system of record.
Can I also use the full Mesio app for a particular visit?
Yes. For practices on a desktop PMS, each appointment in the Bridge has a per-row "sync to app" toggle. Flip it on and the patient + visit shell appears in the Mesio app — useful when you want the bigger workspace (perio chart on a larger screen, prior visits open beside it, Moe ready to answer questions). Record in either the Bridge or the app; when the visit is signed, the finished work is ready in the right place. Turn the toggle off later and Mesio forgets the visit. Your PMS chart is untouched.
05Security & HIPAA
Is Mesio HIPAA-compliant?
Mesio operates as a Business Associate under HIPAA when your practice uses our Services to process PHI. We sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with every practice before recording starts. Audio, transcripts, and generated charts are encrypted in transit and at rest; access is role-scoped; every meaningful event is audit-logged; and signed notes lock against silent rewrite. Will my patient data be used to train AI?
No. Patient PHI is not used to train or fine-tune our AI models. Where Mesio uses third-party language-model providers under the hood, those providers have signed BAAs with us and have provider-side training contractually disabled.
How do I get a BAA?
Email legal@mesio.ai and we'll send the current template. We sign the BAA before any PHI flows through the Service.
06Pricing & onboarding
What does it cost?
Per-seat with three tiers — Essential, Pro, and Pro+. Pricing details are on the marketing site's pricing section, and you can also email hello@mesio.ai for DSO and multi-location quotes.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — fourteen days, full Pro tier, no card up front, on your real patients. We sign a BAA before you start so it's HIPAA-clean from day one.
Can I just see it first?
Yes. Synthetic demo mode drops you into the real app loaded with fake patients and recordings — no signup, no data, two minutes of poking around. It's the fastest way to decide whether the product is worth a closer look.
